The Batesburg-Leesville Police Department has received calls from citizens regarding a new scam. According to reports, callers, of unknown origin, claim to represent the BLPD and are seeking money from victims to avoid arrest or jail.

“The scammers are pretending to work for the Batesburg-Leesville Police Department,” said Chief W. Wallace Oswald. “The folks are calling citizens and advising them they have outstanding warrants and need to pay a fine or they will be arrested.”

If you receive a call like this, please do not give any of your personal information over the phone and do not give these scammers any money. Hang up immediately and call the police department to report the incident.

“It is sad that a few unscrupulous people try to take advantage of our good-hearted citizens for financial gain,” said Chief Oswald.

If you have any questions regarding charges or warrants call the police department directly at 803-532-4408.
